Mulled Wines for Winter

Traditionally a means by working class English to spice and flavour poorly stored wines imported from France during the 19th century, mulled wine has evolved to become a red wine cocktail that warms and soothes during the colder months.

Mulled wines are generally spiced with an array of oriental spices like cinnamon, cloves and star anise, then bulked up with the addition of cider or fruit juice, and then finally spiked with red wine and brandy.

You would think it a crime to throw quality wine into a concoction destined to be intensely flavoured with spices and other means, but the wine can be of equal or greater value to the sum of its parts.

We have some delicious reds to add huge depths of flavour and take that mulled wine to the next level.
